***HAPPY NEW YEAR***
Did you make your new year's resolutions for 2016?! I decided this year I wasn't going to make a resolution that involved diets or exercise. Instead, I'm going to dedicate more time to taking care of myself. Now that may involve making better food choices and moving a bit more since I spend most of my time sitting at a desk by day and sitting at my sewing machine and quilting by night. I know, I know...that sounds the same as diet and exercise doesn't it?!
Now lets share our important resolutions, those that involve quilting!
One of my favorite block of the month patterns is Moccasin by Gen X Quilters. It was one of the first patterns and fabric we purchased when we launched Milk Bottle. Since it's a 12-month program, I made a resolution to make this quilt in 2016. I just completed the two blocks that are included in the first month's pattern. I am so excited to see how this turns out. I just know it's going to be a beautiful quilt!

I'm not sure about this next resolution. Nancy has been telling me I need to write a blog for Milk Bottle Quilt Co. YIKES...a blog?! When am I supposed to find the time to write a blog and who is going to want to read what is happening in my world? I have a full-time job as the business manager at our school, I'm trying to make a shop sample of every kit we carry on the website, every so often I attempt a Facebook post (I'm leaving our Pinterest boards in Nancy's capable hands!) and now you want me to write a blog. Double YIKES!! This resolution may be in the development stage for awhile.
I feel it's important to share quilting knowledge and tips with fellow quilters. I resolve to share my favorite quilting tools and ideas with you throughout the year. My friend Patricia, aka Bridgett, gave me a very handy tool called a Bloc_loc ruler. It works so slick in squaring up half square triangles. There is a groove on the back of the ruler you align up on the seam of your triangle. You trim off the edges and have a perfect half square triangle every time...it's awesome!
These rulers are available at your local quilt stores, so check them out the next time you're fabric shopping!
My last resolution is complete one UFO. I can hear you asking...only ONE?! The golden rule of resolutions it to make sure they are realistic. I know with my schedule and the plans I have for Milk Bottle Quilt Company for the next year, I will only have time to complete one UFO. My UFO is a block of the month I purchased from our local shop, Experience Quilts, over a year ago. That BOM was the seed which would eventually grow into my dream of launching my own quilting website!
I hope each of you included a resolution on your list this year that involves quilting and friends. Those are two of my favorite things...how about you?!
Here's to a creative 2016! Juli
